Failing to Stop When Signaled/Requested by a Police Officer s.216(1) Highway Traffic Act
In their lawful execution of their duties and responsibilities, a police officer may require the driver of a vehicle to stop. The driver of the motor vehicle, when signaled or requested to stop by a police officer who is readily identifiable as such, shall immediately come to a safe stop. You may not have seen the police officer, or may not have stopped your vehicle in time.
Fail to stop for police pursuant to the Highway Traffic Act is categorized as a “strict liability” offence.
